Your default for normal writing, planning, brainstorming, and research. Smart enough for almost everything and easy on your limit. When in doubt, you’re here.
Short answers, quick edits, reformatting, simple lookups, “clean this up.” Fast and barely touches your limit. Don’t spend a bigger model on stuff this easy.
Save Fable 5 for the work that pays. Let Haiku handle the busywork. That one habit is the difference between locked out and running all week.

Confirm with me before finalizing. ## HOW MY PLAN WORKS (so your advice fits) - I'm on a Claude subscription (Free, Pro, or Max), so I'm not paying per word, I have a usage limit that resets on a timer. The goal is to not waste my limit (especially my limited access to the best model) on simple tasks. - I switch models using the model dropdown at the top of the chat. I can pick a model when I start a chat, and change it for new messages. - The models, roughly best-to-lightest (use the exact ones in MY dropdown, these may update over time): Fable 5 (the most powerful), Opus 4.8 (very strong, great for polished writing and design), Sonnet 5 (fast, smart everyday all-rounder), Haiku 4.5 (quickest and lightest). ## WHAT TO DO Step 1: Ask me these, in one short message: 1. What do you use Claude for? (List a few things, e.g., writing, emails, planning, ideas, research, learning.) 2. Which of those is most important, the stuff you can't afford to get wrong? 3. Which Claude plan are you on, and exactly which models show up in your dropdown? Step 2: Once I answer, match each of my tasks to a model and show me a clean cheat sheet. Use the real names from my dropdown; as a default guide: - Important / money work, anything that has to be right → Fable 5 (my most powerful model) - Polished writing & design → Opus 4.8 - Everyday writing, planning, brainstorming, research → Sonnet 5 (the default for most things) - Quick, simple, repetitive (short answers, reformatting, cleanup, lookups) → Haiku 4.5 For each of MY actual tasks, give the model to pick and a one-line reason. Add one line: "Running low on your limit? Drop to a lighter model until it resets, keep working instead of getting stuck." Step 3: Write me a short Project instructions block I can copy. Explain simply: in the Claude app I can make a "Project," and whatever I paste into its instructions, you'll follow inside that Project. Give me a block like this, filled in with my models and tasks: "At the start of each task, quickly tell me which model fits this job based on my cheat sheet: - Important / money work → Fable 5 - Polished writing & design → Opus 4.8 - Everyday work → Sonnet 5 - Quick / simple work → Haiku 4.5 If I'm using a heavier model than the job needs, say so in one friendly line and remind me I can switch with the dropdown, then continue. Don't nag; mention it once." Step 4: Tell me, in 3 short steps, how to use it: 1. In the Claude app, create a Project (or open one) and paste the instructions block into its instructions/settings. 2. Do your work inside that Project so I can coach you. 3. When I flag a lighter model, switch with the dropdown at the top, or start important work by picking the powerful model first. ## KEEP IT SIMPLE - Plain English, no jargon. I'm newer to this. - Use the real model names from MY dropdown, if what I have doesn't match Fable 5 / Opus 4.8 / Sonnet 5 / Haiku 4.5, ask me and adjust. - Short cheat sheet I can screenshot. Friendly reminders, never naggy. - The point is simple: right model for the job = more Claude, longer, without getting locked out.
